American Staffordshire Terrier

The American Staffordshire Terrier
is a happy, outgoing, stable, and confident dog. Gentle and
loving towards people. Good-natured, amusing, extremely loyal
and affectionate family pet.
It is good with children and
adults. Almost always obedient, this dog wants nothing more then
to please its master. It is an extremely courageous and
intelligent guard dog that is very full of life.
Courageous and a persistent fighter if provoked. Highly
protective of his owners and the owner's property, it will fight
an enemy to the death if the enemy traps the dog in a corner and
threatens its loved ones.
Great caution needs to be used to
insure that this breed is well socialized with humans and other
animals. Dogs that develop a distrust or disliking of other dogs
can prove extremely dangerous.
There are currently a number of
serious legal issues that come with owning this breed of dog.
They are banned in many cities, and landlords have successfully
evicted tenants for simply owning these dogs. As well, many
veterinarians and trainers have refused to serve people who own
these dogs.
Notwithstanding the inherent good
nature of these dogs, the legal restrictions make them near
impossible to own in many areas. For this reason, and this
reason alone, we give these dogs an NC-17 rating. We do not feel
that teenage dog owners can possibly deal with the social
baggage, (and potential legal fees), that comes from owning one
of these dogs. These dogs should be owned by extremely
responsible and established adults.
