Dear Peter: No, it is not normal for puppies to eat light bulbs. Firstly, because most people do not leave light bulbs where puppies can get them, and, secondly, because most puppies are not interested in eating glass. Does this mean your puppy is crazy? Not at all. It simply means that your puppy, like most puppies, is experimenting and exploring with his mouth.
As you may already know, a developing child learns about the world through investigative exploration. Children use their hands to guide them through most of their early learning experiences and in the process they touch anything and everything they can get their hands on. Puppies are similar, with the greatest difference being that they do not have hands; so they use their mouths. Puppies, like children, need a great deal of guidance when learning what they can and cannot touch.
An interesting coincidence about destructive chewing is that many destructive puppies also have housebreaking problems. Why is this? Because, with few exceptions, destructive behavior results from the same mistake as housebreaking problems; too much freedom, too soon.
All puppies need to be careful weaned into domestic freedom. It is a great and costly mistake to place trust in a puppy that is not ready for that trust. If given the opportunity most puppies will chew on almost anything that is available; including drywall, baseboards, carpets, vacuum cleaners, electric cords, car steering wheels, car seats, seatbelts, and in some cases, even glass.
The problem with destructive chewing is greater than most people realize. A small eight week old puppy can cause terrible, costly, damage to you home in minutes. This problem is often compounded my the extreme, sometimes fatal, damage that puppies do to themselves. Fatal bowl obstructions often occur after a puppy has ingested great amounts of indigestible material, such as bedding, carpet fibers, paper towels, and socks. Yikes!

● Sample Information
Believe it or not, and we hope you believe it, some of the worst puppy training advice comes from under experienced puppy trainers. These individuals breath life into counter productive training methods. One of these counter productive method is often taught to puppies.
One of these counter productive methods goes like this:
When you catch your puppy chewing on a forbidden object, quickly remove the forbidden item from your puppy, and replace it with something that your puppy is allowed to chew on. Once you have given your puppy the appropriate object, reward the puppy with lavish praise. Wow! This is the kind of information that often makes puppy owners blue.
The above information makes common sense, but it is often uncommon sense that gets the problem solved. That is why we pay for expertise, because the expert information is not common.
● Appropriate Action
When you find your puppy chewing on a forbidden object,
you do not want to reward the pup for what it is doing. If you
take the forbidden object away and replace it with something good, your
puppy may mistake the good object as a reward for what it was
This little gem of puppy training information is worth this months internet bill. Once you know how to correctly address your puppy when you catch it in the act of forbidden chewing, you will then be able to solve the problem, and that will save you money, and perhaps even your puppy's life.
