Getting To Know Award Winning Dog Trainer Adam Stone

How Adam Stone Saved Our Dog.

By Linda Frederick

Every once in a while we come across a remarkable human being that changes the way we think about life without changing our individuality. These influential people often appear on our television screens, or in the pages of a best selling book. But if you are careful enough to recognize the importance of everyday life, you may realize that the most amazing people are those you already know.

As odd as this may sound, the most influential person I know is my dogs' trainer, a flamboyant individual known to the world as Adam Stone.

I first contacted Adam Stone a few weeks after my dog bite my daughter. I was distraught. My husband was enraged and my daughter was painfully confused. Why confused? Because she loved the dog that bit her, and she was old enough to understand that the bite was enough to have her dog put to death.

Both my husband and I realized that we could not allow an aggressive dog to live with our child. But we also understood that our daughter would be emotionally hurt if we had the family dog put to death.

My husband wanted my daughter to be strong. He belied that her physical safety was more important than the way she felt about our dog. I did not agree. Although it would have been easy to remove the dog from our house, I could not help but worry about the greater message that we would be sending our daughter.  What was that message?

Is it every ok to kill something that you love?

After much soul searching we decided to contact an expert dog trainer. We hired several people,  all of whom seemed capable of helping us, but all failed to make any difference in the way our dog lashed out at our daughter. As a last resort we contacted Adam Stone and invited him to our home to meet our dog.

Within seconds of meeting Adam Stone (pictured left) we knew that we were in the presence of a remarkable human being. While all of the other trainers asked to see our dog first, Adam asked to speak with our daughter. The first thing he did was ask to see where the dog had bite her. Reluctantly she pulled back her hair to reveal a scar behind her left ear. She still had stitches at the time and she must have been in terrible pain, although she tried to hide it.

"That must have hurt?" Adam Asked.

"Yes" My daughter whispered.

Adam then pulled up his shirt sleeve to reveal a bite on his arm. He pointed to the bite and said, "That is my oldest dog bite. It hurt too."

I watched as my daughters eyes grew three times their normal size. Adam made a connection with my little girl. Within minutes of walking into my house he identified the heart of the problem and started a healing process that saved our dog and changed the way I view the world. I cannot thank Adam Stone enough for giving my daughter the courage to save the family pet.

Years Later | Adam Stone As A Friend

Adam Stone and I have become friends over the years and I have watched him grow from a humble community dog trainer, to a well seasoned expert who is talked about all around the world. I have read accounts of his actions from people who hardly know him, and have watched him celebrated on national television.  I have read all of his books and make a point of watching him whenever he appears on television. After more than fifteen years in his company I think I know what makes Adam Stone a rare and gifted human person.

Adam Stone is one of the few people you will meet who is true to his nature. When he is sad he cries, when he is mad he yells, when he is confused he stutters. I believe that Adam's ability to be honest with his own emotional life is what makes him such a special dog trainer. Dogs don't lie. They do not cover up and try to be something they are not. And if you are able to accept their honesty you will be a wonderful dog owner. I can say the same about Adam Stone; if you are able to accept his honesty, you will find great wisdom in his work.

I trusted Adam Stone with my daughters safety, and he did far more than keep her save, he helped her become a wonderful dog owner. He made her see that the scar behind her ear did not make her a dog bite victim, it made her 'more experienced', and that experience was used to her best advantage.

This website has taken may forms, but the form that it is in now best reflects who Adam Stone is. This web site is a digital diary that will guide you through the life of a man who loves dogs more than anyone I have ever met.

Years ago I was impressed with the way Adam related to my daughter. Today I am impressed with his willingness to share his life in such a wonderful way.
